The Art of Portraiture

My conceptual approach to portraiture is complex and requires an intensive engagement with the individual I am photographing. It is as much about understanding a person’s story, how they have become the person who stands before my lens, as it is about capturing their mood and presence in that very moment. Every human being is an artist at playing themselves. Yet, when facing a camera, most people suddenly struggle to inhabit that role authentically.

The art of me as a portrait artist lies in finding the delicate balance between presence and invisibility. One must become as unobtrusive as possible in order not to alter the subject’s natural mood, while remaining fully attentive to recognise and capture the right moment.

A truly successful portrait transcends the moment. It becomes an immortal piece of history, preserving not only the person, but the story of a life.

“A portrait should be nothing less than a visual expression of a life story: your story.”

Mastering the Ambivalence

To be Faust and Mephisto in one person. As an internationally acclaimed actor, Haydar Zorlu is able to perform every role in his theatre play “Faust”. He fascinates audiences with his unique Faust performances in the three different languages German, English and Turkish. Thus he definitely has secured a place in the Olymp of theatre masters.

Beeing a Musician

A man with long hair, a beard, and wearing a black hat and black clothing sitting on a bench outside. There is a guitar on a stand and a drum set nearby, and behind him is a rusty metal frame with large windows showing trees and the sky.

We simply can’t imagine life without music. Or can we? But behind every musician is a person - a person with their very own story. And that is exactly what this is about.

Self-Confidence is not at Odds with Elegance

Few possess Linda’s talent for bringing a sense of lightness to fashion. A versatile artist, she moves effortlessly between energising the dance floor as D-Jane and expressing herself through vibrant acrylic paintings. Fashion becomes yet another medium through which she explores her creativity and tells her story.

Where Apparent Clarity Meets the Blurred

Often the truth lies not in the focus, but in the grey area between reality and the surreal. How many different aspects could an artist bear?

The renowned artist Kalle Paltzer works with paper as a material in his art, transforming it into unique three-dimensional works of art.
