The Fionacci Sequence in Photography
The Fibonacci Sequence in Photography is a mathematical pattern found throughout nature, from the arrangement of flower petals to the shape of seashells and galaxies. In photography, it is used as a compositional guideline to create harmony, balance, and a natural sense of movement within an image.
The Fibonacci Spiral helps photographers position their main subject in a way that naturally guides the viewer’s eye through the photograph. Ideally, the main motif should be placed near the smallest, innermost part of the spiral, where the viewer's attention naturally comes to rest. The remaining elements of the image should follow the curve of the spiral, leading the eye towards the main subject.
The reason this technique is so effective is that our eyes are naturally drawn to patterns, proportions, and visual relationships. Applying the Fibonacci principle can make an image feel more organic, harmonious, and visually pleasing.
Ultimately, Fibonacci is not a strict rule, but a powerful compositional tool that helps photographers create images that feel more natural, balanced, and connected to the visual patterns we see in nature.
